The long-boat race on the Thangapat moat at Bijoy Govinda, rowed by crews of forty in narrow hiyang hirens. A garland of heikru, the small sour fruit, is offered to Vishnu before the boats go out. It is a rite for the health of the land, asked for by the racing, and it is also the best afternoon of the Manipuri year to be on that bank.
