Houses are counted from each rasi as the first: a graha in the sign after yours is in your 2nd house. Chandran's house sets the day's tone; Guru is taken as favourable in the 2nd, 5th, 7th, 9th and 11th, Sani in the 3rd, 6th and 11th. Sade sati is Sani in the 12th, 1st or 2nd, Ashtama sani the 8th, Chandrashtama is Chandran in the 8th.
