Chaturmas ends with it and the marriage season opens: from this day weddings, thread ceremonies and housewarmings are held again. The courtyard is drawn with the feet of the waking god and the family calls him awake at dusk.

The fast
The ordinary Ekadashi fast without rice or grain, broken at the parana. Sugar cane, water chestnut and the first of the winter fruit are offered.
Where the regions differ
It is called Prabodhini or Devuthani in the north, Uthana Dwadashi in Karnataka, and the Tulsi Vivah follows it. Every part of India treats it as the reopening of the wedding season, so it is the date to know when fixing a marriage. Maharashtra keeps it as the second wari of the year: the Varkaris walk to Pandharpur again, Vitthal wakes, chaturmas ends and the Tulsi Vivah follows the next day.
